How a regular guy is changing Europe's car industry
The brightest car options aren’t conceived in labs, they come right out of people’s brains when they drive their cars. That was exactly the starting point of our Opel Smart Options project. Via social media we asked Opel’s fans to submit their smartest ideas for an innovative (non-existant) car option.
And that’s just what they did. In no time 1347 consumer ideas were submitted. Every day, a product designer sketched the best ones in real-time. In the end 70 stunning ideas made it to the shortlist. But only one option could be produced and installed on the winner’s car.
The lifesaving idea: a heatstroke prevention device
Forgetting your baby in your car, it can literally happen to anyone. Most sadly, every summer, an average of 20 forgotten children in Europe die from a heatstroke inside a hot car. Kenny Devlieger - father of 2 sons - thought of a car option that could prevent these dramatic heatstrokes. An option that keeps watch over your children as a guardian angel. He called it: GABRIEL.
Kenny’s option was later on perfected and produced with a team of professional product developers. As promised, we installed it on his Opel Astra.
Compatible with all car brands
But, Gabriel is an option everyone should benefit from. So we produced this car option in a way that it’s compatible with all car brands. While you’re reading this, we’re talking with partners to distribute Gabriel.
But most important, Gabriel got the attention from the European Commission; they want to obligate this car option in Europe.
Keep an eye out on www.opelgabriel.com to follow the production process. Whether you drive an Opel or another car, Gabriel will keep watch on your children.
